Keith Tompkins, who lives in upstate New York, was a designer and builder of custom furniture before embarking on a career as a professional woodturner. He thinks "outside the box" (or bowl as it may be) and creates novel turnings that leave one wondering just how he did it. During his demonstration he showed some of his secrets and provided insight into how he meticulously designs and crafts the pieces. Included was a demonstration on how to turn a cube. He brought along several finished pieces, including the amazing walnut sculpture that was pieced together from sections of bowls that were cut into sections. Like most woodturners, Keith is a woodhound and checked out a pile of kamani that had just been cut by county workers at Anini Beach.
